The inspiration behind AfrikRising came from Christine’s humanitarian experiences in Mexico and her realization of the even greater challenges faced across African nations. Witnessing widespread poverty, especially among children, she was moved to take action. Her goal was not just to provide temporary relief, but to build a platform that empowers individuals—particularly orphans—with tools to create a better future.
AfrikRising’s journey began with its first impactful project in Nigeria, where the organization provided mosquito nets and essential cleaning supplies to orphanages. This initiative directly addressed one of the region’s most pressing health concerns—malaria. With thousands of children at risk due to inadequate living conditions, the distribution of mosquito nets became a life-saving intervention. Beyond immediate relief, it highlighted AfrikRising’s commitment to tackling root causes of suffering through practical solutions.
However, AfrikRising’s vision goes far beyond short-term aid. Recognizing that poverty is often tied to a lack of education and employment opportunities, the organization is actively working toward establishing a trade school in Nigeria. This initiative aims to equip individuals with marketable vocational skills, enabling them to become self-reliant and financially independent. As emphasized by Vice President Dr. Peter Romine, the goal is to create a replicable model where communities can sustain themselves by learning and applying practical skills.
A unique strength of AfrikRising lies in its collaborative approach. From the Nigeria team managing on-ground execution to the U.S.-based team driving fundraising and awareness, AfrikRising functions as a cohesive network united by a shared mission. Expanding partnerships in Ghana further demonstrate its ambition to scale impact and reach more communities in need.
